More about the plant
Start of operation: 1986
Renovations and upgrades: 2011
Type of power plant: Run-of-the-river power plant with a dam structure
HPP Mavčiče is located in the valley of the Sava River downstream from Kranj, near the village of Mavčiče. The power plant is of the run-of-river type with a concrete-gravity dam structure. The accumulation reservoir allows for daily water storage to cover peak electricity consumption. Once the entire chain of Sava River hydroelectric power plants is completed, the reservoir will assume the role of the headwater reservoir.

Type of power plant: Small hydroelectric plant with asynchronous squirrel-cage motor
Small HPP Vrhovo is located on the southern side of the Sava River, where water flows into a fish spawning ground.
A single unit operates in the small power plant, operating in parallel with the grid, delivering all available energy based on the prescribed constant water flow of 0.5 m3/s.

MFE Vrhovo consists of 360 PV modules with a capacity of 215 W, which are installed on the roof of the machine room of HPP Vrhovo. MFE Vrhovo 2 consists of 1584 PV modules with a capacity of 224 W, which are installed on the right-bank of the reservoir of HPP Vrhovo. At the time of comissioning, this was the largest solar power plant in Slovenia.

Type of power plant: Accumulation power plant for peak energy production
HPP Moste has been operating as the first power plant on the Sava River since 1952. The dam is concrete, arch-gravity type, and is located in the narrowest part of the Sava Canyon, in the Kavčke gorge below Žirovnica, making it the highest dam in Slovenia at a height of 60 meters. The accumulation reservoir allows for weekly flow regulation.

The power plant is part of a chain of hydroelectric power plants on the Sava River and also houses the control center for all the hydroelectric power plants on the Sava River, as well as the maintenance center for the chain of hydroelectric power plants in the upper and middle Sava region. The HPP Medvode power plant is located above the confluence of the Sava and Sora rivers, near the town of Medvode. Due to the damming of the river, Zbilje Lake has formed at this location.

Type of power plant: Hydroelectric Power Plant
The Vrhovo hydroelectric power plant is situated in a field below the settlement of Vrhovo and is the first in the series of hydroelectric power plants in the Lower Sava Cascade. The dam structure is of the concrete gravity type, with a structural height of 27 meters. The power plant operates in a daily flow regime with reservoir storage, serving as the headwater reservoir for the Lower Sava Cascade. After the completion of the entire chain of hydroelectric power plants on the Sava River, the reservoir will have the role of an intermediate regulating reservoir.
